Hwy 49 Closed as Crime Scene

Hywy 49 between Downieville and Sierra City is closed due to Sierra County Sheriff’s Office investigation of a crime scene. Deputies from Sierra County, Plumas County and Nevada County responded to an incident last night after 2 a.m. The California DOJ is involved in the investigation. According to SO Dispatch they are hoping to reopen by 2 p.m. Sunday. No deputies have been injured in the incident. A suspect is in custody. More information when the SO issues a press release.

  2. We were visiting during the incident. We talked first to young adult at
    Harrington ranch resort. At that time he said: it was an auto accident and give them an hour to 1.5 hrs to clear. That was at 5:14am. We then went to Bassits around 7:am looking for place open for coffee. A highway patrol officer informed us that their had been a shooting and highway closed . We stayed at Bassit until 2:pm and then Hwy re opened. Various stories were speculated during that day and we returned home next morning. How was the out come and the reason for the incident.
