About SCP

Sierra County Prospect was founded in 2008 by Laurenc DeVita and Liz Fisher.  In June of 2012  Fisher took over the main helm and DeVita got to relax and become a Fringe Editor.  The site became sierracountyprospect.org which still continues to confuse people but they eventually figure it out.

DeVita, the Fringe Editor, still at large,  Dedicated to the hopeless cause of the sovereign individual. In January 2016 DeVita established a new site http://www.resilientsierra.com/home.html and chooses to  be an occasional contributor to SCP.

Fisher, the current Honcho Editor, does all the work, occasionally writes, takes stands on issues and knows more than DeVita cause she’s older. Dedicated to equality and fairness. Life can be fair if we all work together. editor@sierracountyprospect.org

Both have a history of working for the Mountain Messenger during the early 90’s.

This newspaper tells the truth as clearly as we see it.
Thomas Jefferson, the architect of our modern concept of liberty, insisted on a free press, but hated newspapers. He once said, ironically, “The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers.”
However, Jefferson also said, “The only security of all is in a free press. The force of public opinion cannot be resisted when permitted freely to be expressed. The agitation it produces must be submitted to. It is necessary, to keep the waters pure.”
In the spirit of Jefferson, we’ll hope to provide enough agitation to keep the waters pure.

  1. I am trying to reach the person that might know a Robert Michaels that wrote on a page about Webber Lake and having photos. The administrator replied to him that he/she had forwarded it on to the Conservancy. I contacted John Svahn of the conservancy and he doesn’t recall getting anything. Jill from Mountain Messenger said to try to contact the administrator of Sierra Prospect, since that is where I saw the article and comments after it that mentioned photos.
Anyone there know this guy and could he get me in contact with him? I will paste the exchange below from your Webber Lake story….thanks so much. We are related to the Johnsons and looking for photos of our great aunt who died there at the lake.

    thank you

    Hello,
I dont know if you would be interested, but my Grandfather and Grandmother (Margaret and Frank Doak) were friends of the Johnson’s and spent many summers camping and fishing on the lake with them. This would have been in the 40s, 50s and 60s. I have photographs and old 8mm film (transferred to DVD) which I would be happy to share. Thanks

  2. If you really want to get to the core of what Jefferson was trying to convey was in what some say the True definition of Liberty is “Love” which covers any wrongs or mistakes.
