Christmas Tree Permits Available on 11/5/12

Christmas Tree Permits From the Tahoe National Forest on Sale November 5

Sierraville…..For the 2012 holiday season, the Forest Service, Sierraville Ranger District is selling 350 Christmas tree cutting permits starting on November 5 and ending on December 24, or until permits are sold out. The non-refundable permits are $10 each with a limit of two per family, and are valid up to and including December 25.  Permits must be purchased in person with cash or a check.   Credit/ATM cards may not be accepted at all locations.  Included with permit are maps to designated cutting areas and other information about choosing a tree.

Certain cutting areas may be inaccessible after snowfall, so it is advisable to cut trees early in the season.  Forest Service and county roads used to access tree cutting locations are not plowed free of snow. Tree cutters should bring saws and other equipment.  In the event of bad road conditions or inclement weather, be sure to bring warm clothing, a first aid kit, extra food and water, heavy rope or chain, a shovel, and tire chains.  During winter weather, check local highway conditions to make sure highways to your intended cutting location are open.  Before leaving on your Christmas tree cutting adventure, check with the National Weather Service for possible winter weather conditions in the cutting areas.
