Hello Downieville! How was your Holiday on Main? Ours was great! There were many talented performances at the Yuba Theatre on December 1. First off Shelly Fischer’s daycare kids “sang” Silent Night in sign language!!! Then Ms. Schofield’s K-3 class put on a skit based on “The Night Before Christmas.” After that Mrs. Salva’s 4-6 class performed a Readers’ Theater titled “The Grinch. “Mrs. Fillo’s drama class finished up the performances with a skit titled “Up a Christmas Tree.”  A very successful dessert auction was held to end the festivities.  Many, many thanks to all the generous bidders and purchasers of holiday baked goods; the proceeds will benefit the Artists in School program.  Ms. Schofield’s class would like to personally thank each and every person who came to the theater and supported their performance on Saturday.

Also last weekend the high school girl’s basketball team journeyed up to Princeton to participate in their first tournament! Sadly we lost all three of our gameswith scores of 10-50, 18-52, and 14-50. It was a great experience for all of the girls on the team and we really started working together and communicating. A member of Princeton’s team made a point to mention that we didn’t let them win easily and that we fought harder and were more intense than any team they’ve ever played. Also, Marie Ellsworth and Fiona Baiker won All Tourney, an award that essentially recognizes outstanding playing and sportsmanship.

All of the school kids are excitedly looking forward to a half-day on the 12th, and the 23rd, with Christmas break lasting until January 7. The Winter Wonderland dance will be held in the cafeteria on the 7th for grades 7-12. The dance will start at 8 and end at 11, and it’s $7 to get in. Also, the Booster’s Club is selling Downieville School sweatshirts for $20, and t-shirts for $10. Mrs. Fillo and Suzi Pangman were luckily awarded Sierra Schools Foundation grants and were fully funded a total of $3,865 to use for learning projects and fieldtrips! Additionally, Mrs. Fillo’s Avid classes are still selling bleacher cushions for $10, and spirit scarves for $15. Anyone who buys a cushion before or during the first basketball game (December 18th) gets $2 off of his or her entrance for the first game. If you’re interested in any of these items please call to make an order at 289-3743.

I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday on Main and have a great Christmas! We’re still counting down; only 23 three weeks of school left!
