8/29/12 by the DHS AVID class
This year is going to be a very exciting year for Downieville School K-12. With many projects and events in store, the Downieville staff and students alike are preparing for an amazing year.
The events at Downieville School vary from Back to School Night to sports. Back to School Night is September 12, 5:30-7 p.m. Parents are encouraged to come meet with teachers and learn about classroom curriculum.
The annual Book Fair will run from Tuesday through Thursday, September 11-13; it will also be open during Back to School Night.
Despite the declining number of students, the sports seasons are something to be excited about. This year’s array of talent includes veteran volleyball players Hannah Ford, Savannah Burr and Fiona Baiker. There are several new additions to the team as well. Alumni, parents, and community members are all encouraged to support our Lady Warriors at their first home volleyball game. The game is on September 20 at 5:30 against Elk Creek. Be ready to scream and shout for our Ladies to have their best season yet!
Along with volleyball, Downieville High School has a lively cross-country team on the way to athletic perfection. Other sports possibilities for the 2012/13 year are boy’s basketball and girl’s basketball. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for great sports seasons!
The excitement and anticipation of a fresh school year is in the air. Unfamiliar faces are seen around campus, including a new 7th grader, five kindergarteners, and the return of two familiar high school faces. This makes the total number of Downieville students a whopping 53. We also have the pleasure of having a new addition to Downieville School’s staff. Mrs. Laura Salva is the new 4th, 5th and 6th grade teacher with much to offer her students.
Overall, this school year seems very promising. With an array of sports teams and an academically skilled group of maturing young people, this school year will be a great success! We hope to send the Class of 2013 into the world prepared to take on challenges and obstacles with grace and finesse.
