New Daytime Session of Healthier Living Class Begins
for Individuals with Chronic Health Conditions
GRASS VALLEY, CA April 9, 2013 Western Sierra Medical Clinic will host a new daytime session of the six-week Healthier Living Workshop beginning Tuesday, April 30. The program is designed to support and educate individuals living with chronic health conditions, and is free and open to the public.
Weekly classes will be held at Miners Family Health Center on Tuesdays from 9 am – noon in the facility’s conference room. Classes cover topics such as pain and symptom management, the benefits of condition-appropriate exercise and nutrition, dealing with difficult emotions, relaxation techniques, and tips for communicating with health care professionals.
Chronic conditions are generally defined as being of long duration and slow progression, and may include heart disease, stroke, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes, MS, celiac disease, ALS, arthritis, and chronic pain.
“These classes continue to grow in popularity,” says co-instructor Joanna Snider-Lipa, LCSW at Western Sierra Medical Clinic. “The program provides a true turning point in the lives of participants as they learn to manage their chronic health conditions with more ease.”
Participant interaction, shared learning experiences, and the creation of weekly personal action plans are part of the program.
This program was created by Stanford University and is made possible at WSMC through a grant from the California Collaborative for Chronic Disease Prevention.
Every participant will receive the companion book, Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions, and a guided relaxation tape. Pre-registration is required and can be made by contacting Chris Grace at (530) 274-9762.
