Holiday Pet Parade 12/1/12

Holiday Pet Parade on Holiday on Main December 1

The holidays are upon us, and that means it’s time, once again, for the Holiday Pet Parade!  The Sierra County Animal Relief Fund (ARF) invites all pet owners to bring their festively dressed pets to this fun-filled event.  The parade will take place on Saturday, December 1st at 1pm in front of Sierra Hardware in downtown Downieville.  Everyone is welcome, and all entrants will receive a Petco Gift Card.  Please have your pet on a leash, lead rope, or otherwise contained. Please make sure that all young animals have their first set of vaccinations.

The Animal Relief Fund will have a raffle drawing with a great list of prizes.  The drawing will be held after the parade winners are announced.  Tickets can be purchased from Rachel Guffin. Tickets are 1 for $1, 6 for $5, or $20 for your height in tickets.  Rachel can be contacted at 289-2720 or by e-mail, sccaarf@gmail.com.  To view a current list of prizes, see ARF’s website,www.animalrelieffund.net .

Since beginning in 2009, ARF has helped 94 households in Sierra County.  Twenty-six families received help with the cost of veterinary visits; over 120 animals received pet food (including a chicken and other birds); and spaying and neutering were funded for 28 families with multiple pets.

The generous donations we receive from the public, and from this holiday event, allow us to continue funding these much needed services in Sierra County.  Spaying and neutering helps keep the pet population and the stray population down in our county.

ARF would like to thank the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe’s Pet Pantry for helping us out with food from time to time, and to Australian Cattledog Rescue of San Diego and Animal Save for posting the occasional pet needing to find a new home.  We would also like to thank Pine Creek Veterinary, Grass Valley Veterinary Hospital, and Four Paws Animal Clinic in Nevada County, along with Plumas Veterinary Service (Dr. Schafer and his amazing staff) for working with us and taking such good care of the animals and families that we send to them.  A big thank you to all of our supporters, without whom, we would not be able to continue these much needed services.
