To the Editor:
One of the serious problems that our government has is inadequate funds to pay for a strong safety net including MediCal, Medicare and education. Another serious problem is the excess funds spent by lobbyists and the special interests they represent to influence legislation by paying political action committees and for campaign funds, thereby corrupting the political process with a form of bribery.
One way to attack both of these problems with one stone would be to tax the money paid into poliical action committees and campaign funds and use the money for the safety net.
Speech is not money, no matter what a corrupt court may say, George Orwell called that “double think”.
Free speech should not protect bribery.
