Scarecrow Maker self-publishes whimsical Scarecrow Storybook
Since 2000, local artist Katie O’Hara-Kelly has been hand-making scarecrows and selling them on her website, www.gardenfolk.com. Since then she has sold over 550 scarecrows to customers living in 40 different states, and 3 countries! In 2002, she wrote and illustrated a children’s book about scarecrows, but never finished it. It’s ten years later now, and her book, Garden Folk, is finally completed!
During the week of July 4th, Katie will be selling her new book at the Two Rivers Gallery in downtown Downieville, CA. The book features 16 different scarecrows, made from teapots to topiaries, in a variety of gardens. The story is whimsical and fun, and the large (8.5″ x 14″) color illustrations are cute and lively. Any child or garden lover will delight in this book!
This is Katie’s second children’s book. Her first book, What are YOU looking at?, was published by Sequoia Natural History Association in 2002. It is a natural history book for children, featuring select plants, bugs, birds, and animals of the Sierra Nevada. 1,000’s of copies of this book have been sold in National Parks and museums.
Both of Katie’s books will be available at the Two Rivers Gallery. What are YOU looking at? retails for $7.95, and Garden Folk is $12.95. Stop by and pick up autographed copies for your home!
