Nadean Anita Thompson was born in Salinas in 1930 and spent her childhood in Escondido. She and her husband Lyman Breed, who passed away earlier this year, were long time residents of Sierra City and at one time were proprietors of the Downieville Grocery Store and the Sierra City Country Store. Throughout her life Nadean loved to sew, when the family was young they liked to go camping at the beach or in the mountains and enjoyed huge family get-togethers on holidays. After moving to Downieville in 1981, Nadean became one of the founding members of the Mountain Star Quilters and the Fall Colors Quilt Show. Nadean made costumes for the Children’s Messiah, Holiday on Main and for many other local events over the years. For the past six months Nadean struggled with lung cancer and was in hospice care at her home in Citrus Heights, grandson Mark was her devoted caregiver. Nadean passed away on Monday, October 22 and a graveside service was held at the Sierra City cemetery on October 28. Nadean is survived by her son Larry and daughter-in-law Kathy, daughter Lynell and son-in law George, six grandchildren, Christopher, Dera, Michael, Kevin, Mark, Candace, three great-grandchildren Russell, Genevieve, Lola and her brother and sister-in-law Jim and Bobbie Thompson and many nieces and nephews. Nadean will be fondly remembered and missed by all.
