The sisters of Naomi Parlor no. 36, Native Daughters of the Golden West held their annual “Mad Hatter Tea Party” on Saturday, April 27 at their hall in Downieville. An enjoyable afternoon was spent visiting, eating and opening raffle prizes. There was a great turnout of ladies representing all age groups, as young as 2 and still young at 94! Some of the ladies came from as far aways as Sacramento and Doyle, California. There was also a nice turnout of uniques and fun hats, and the food was plentiful and delicious. These sisters sure can cook! too soon the afternoon was over and the guests had departed, promising to get together for the 2014 “Mad Hatter’s Tea Party”.
Many thanks to our local merchants and sisters who donated raffle prizes. We treasure the community support that helps us keep alive the history of our unique town and state and to maintain our wonderful, historic building. Our next fundraising event will be the “Ice Cream Social” on August 24th. This event promises to be filled with wonderful homemade cookies and stiff competition for the best homemade icecream. We invite you to attend and/or participate by entering your homemade ice cream. Finally in September we will clebrate the 125th anniversary of our Naomi Parlor with a visit from the Grand President, Native Daughters of the Golden West.
