QUILTING BEE TIME AGAIN…..
A new element of the 25th “Fall Colors” Quilt Show this year will be a small collection of wall hangings called “the Hoffman Challenge”. The Mountain Star Quilters weekend event, October 5th and 6th, will display as usual the latest efforts made by members during the past few years. The “Hoffman Challenge” is a nationwide contest sponsored by a California fabric company. It specifies six fabrics to be used in a 30″ by 30″work in a given theme. Over the years, the winning entries have grown to form a traveling exhibit of truly awesome creativity and craftsmanship. A group of these should add excitement to the Downieville show, which opens both Saturday and Sunday at 10 AM.
As always, the quilts will be displayed on the upper floor of the Community Hall, with vendors and the country store downstairs. This year’s “Opportunity Quilt”, a queen-sized blue and gold beauty, was made by Mountain Star members and won a ribbon at the Sierra-Plumas Fair. Prior to the Quilt Show, it can be seen at the Gallery in Sierra City. The drawing for it will be held at 4 PM on Sunday, October 6th. Tickets for this are available at the Gallery in the Wells Fargo building in Sierra City, the Mountain Harvest shop in Downieville, or from members of Mountain Star Quilters. Proceeds from the drawing go toward a scholarship for seniors at Downieville High. The tickets are one dollar each or 6 for $5.
