The Sierra County Animal Relief Fund’s “Christmas Extravaganza”, part of Downieville’s Holiday on Main, was an unqualified success for the animals of Sierra County. Roughly $1,100 was raised for the organization’s work of providing emergency food and medical care to the animal members of Sierra County families, as well as assisting with spaying and neutering needs. The proceeds came from the silent auction, raffle, and donations.
Silent auction winners were: Mary Lee Davey (El Dorado Casino & Resort package); Miriam Dines (Plumas Veterinary Service package); Liz Fisher (Mah-Jong set); Earlene Folsom (cat basket) Linda & Paul Guffin (BBQ & beer basket and Mondavi Center “Spirit of Uganda” concert); Patty Sandoval (spa basket); Danielle Williamson (food & wine basket and dog basket); Debbie Wilson (Sierra Hot Springs package); Julia Noll (Yosemite Coyote photograph). A huge thanks to all the auction donors and bidders.
Raffle winners were: Joyce DeChicio (SPD gift certificate); Sean Epps (South Pine Cafe gift certificate and DHS cushion); Richard Halliday (Regal Entertainment Group movie tickets); Karen Hamilton (Esquire IMAX movie tickets); Tessa Jackson (Volz Brothers gift card); Ingrid Larson (DHS scarf & cushion); Laura Marshall (Plaza Tires service); Duane Sorenson (Volz Brothers gift card); Jill Tahija (South Pine Cafe gift certificate); Terry Tahija (DHS scarf & cushion). It should be noted that 70% of raffle winners purchased their height in tickets. A big “thank you” to raffle prize donors and all who bought raffle tickets.
While the weather served as something of a deterrent, the Pet Parade went on as scheduled, with five dogs entered. Winners were: Teddy (1st place best dressed); Chloe (2nd place best dressed); Katie (3rd place best dressed); Brandy (best late entrant); Phoenix (best obedient). Thanks go to the Pet Parade judges Don Epperson and Jesse Folsom, parade registrar Tessa Jackson, photographer Mary Lee Davey, and booth attendants Linda Guffin and Danielle Williamson.
