Spring Home & Garden Show April 27

Grass Valley–The Union’s 28th Annual Spring Home & Garden Show is Saturday, April 27 and Sunday the 28, at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley. The Spring Home & Garden Show is the place to get thousands of ideas for your home and garden, learn how to do it yourself, entertain the kids, enjoy live music, and enjoy the beauty of the Nevada County Fairgrounds.
New this year is a Banner Mountain Artisans Show & Sale in conjunction with the Home & Garden Show. Banner Mountain Artisans (until now) have only shared their creations once a year at their Holiday Show & Sale (first weekend in November) in Nevada City. This is their first show in Grass Valley.
Special demos and presentation topics this year will include container gardening, raising tomatoes, heirloom seeds, improving soil, making compost tea, repurposing, beekeeping, gardening challenges in the foothills, and more. There’s something for everyone at this year’s Home & Garden Show.
Special on Sunday, April 28 is a NASCAR exhibition sponsored by Riebes Automotive and the Bill McAnally Racing Team. All day long there will be a NASCAR hauler, 2 Bill McAnally/Napa racecars, and then from 1 to 3 p.m. Bill McAnally himself plus 2 of his drivers, Sergio Pena and Hayden Pedersen will sign autographs and pose with fans for photos.
Also on Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., bring your valuables to be appraised by Gary Cox, “The Antiques Answer Man”, in the Northern Mines Building. His expertise includes appraising for the Crocker Art Museum, and is the Northern California antiques dealers’ “go-to” man when they are sourcing antiques for sale. Gary will appraise items for $10 each, or 3 for $25.
In addition to all the vendors offering the newest in home, garden and landscape products and services, the popular Then Again will play Saturday from noon to 3:00 p.m., and Dream and the Dreamer will play Sunday from noon to 3:00 p.m. Kids will enjoy the “Build-a-Birdhouse” activity where they can take home the birdhouse they build, as well as the “Paint-a-Flower-Pot” activity where they paint a flower pot, plant a flower, and take it home to tend.
These activities are free – face painting and bounce house is available for a nominal cost.
Admission is free; the Nevada County Fairgrounds charges $5 per car for parking. For more information call 530-273-9561 or visit www.theunion.com/homeshow.
