DOWNIEVILLE, CA February 19, 2013 Western Sierra Medical Clinic (WSMC) has announced that Family Nurse Practitioner Sarah Cantrell, RN, FNP, from Pilgrim’s Knob, Virginia, has been appointed as a new full-time provider at the Downieville site clinic.
She will begin her new position upon the retirement of WSMC founder and long-time provider Frank Lang Sr., FNP, this June, and will train with Lang and staff members beginning in April to ensure a smooth handoff.
Cantrell is very familiar with living in a small rural community. She and her husband plan to reside in Downieville, after moving from their long-time residence in western Virginia, which has a population of less than 500.
“I’ve worked in my hometown for over twenty-five years. As my husband and I began exploring new areas, California came to the top of our list, and the town of Downieville made an impression that we have fallen in love with,” shared Cantrell.
Cantrell was chosen through a nationwide search. She has over fifteen years of clinical practice as an FNP and 23 years as an RN, with experience in community health centers, private practice, County Public Health, and hospital environments.
Cantrell originally received her ASN from Southwest Virginia Community College in 1987. While earning her BSN in nursing from the Medical College of Virginia and her MSN from East Tennessee State University, she worked in Buchanan General Hospital’s Emergency Room, Pediatric and Medical-Surgical departments as an RN.
Sierra and Yuba County residents in every stage of life will be able to see Cantrell for their primary care needs. She has proven skills in illness diagnosis, urgent care, immunizations, physical examinations, acute care and treatment of chronic health illnesses.
“I experienced a genuine and heartfelt welcome from each and everyone I met in Downieville. I am looking forward to this move and to giving back to a community that has gained so much from Frank Lang Sr. and his family,” says Cantrell.
Scott McFarland, Chief Executive Officer at WSMC, states, “Frank Lang has been the driving force behind the progress of the Downieville clinic, and he was integral to this search for his replacement as well. We all believe that Sarah will provide just the right fit for the future of the health center, and we look forward to working with her and the community to ensure that we continue to provide superior patient care for all in need.”
