Downieville United Methodist Church
The members of the Downieville United Methodist Church are making plans for the church’s 160th years of service in the community. An open invitation is extended for the celebration to be held on Saturday, September 29th, 2012 beginning at noon, with a gathering in the sanctuary for a time to share memories, followed by a bar-b-que.
While construction on the building began in 1856, the church was organized and preaching services were held starting in 1852 by Rev. Robert Rankin Dunlap. The church has been in continuous use since its completion and the present congregation continues to work toward maintaining its historical significance in the community. Annual Labor Day Weekend Rummage Sale proceeds are used to help defray the cost of major projects like the new steeple that was erected last Fall, due to weathering and deterioration.
You are cordially invited to join with the Downieville United Methodist Church in celebrating 160 years of ministry and service to the Downieville community
