The Downieville Lion’s Club annual speech contest is scheduled for the evening of Monday, January 27, 6 p.m. at the Downieville School.
Open to students in grades 9 thru 12, the contest is sponsored statewide by Lion’s Club.
This year’s topic for speakers is “Community service – what does it mean and why does it matter?”
The contest is designed to provide students an opportunity for competitive public speaking on a subject of vital interest to both the students and society, to stimulate self expression and independent thinking, and to present to all the problems of a free nation and how to best meet the needs of issues nationwide.
The speech contest is open to the public and begins at 6pm. All are encouraged to attend and listen to our leaders of tomorrow.
