A New Chapter
The rumors are true: I am running for the Board of Equalization, District 1. Since 2010 the District boundaries shrunk, the Democratic registration grew to an advantage, the seat number changed from 2 to 1, and the opportunity to win this seat has improved.
What about low turnout? Almost every hot seat in the state is in District 1 from Congressman Ami Bera to Ken Cooley, Michael Eggman, Amanda Renteria, Rudy Salas, Luis Chavez, Steve Fox, and Pete Aguilar. It’s like an old Prego Spaghetti Sauce commercial, “Yep, It’s in there!” The turnout I need to succeed will be there in November. Every one of these contests are counting on it and so am I.Why run again? Ask Joe.
A Quick Start
Unlike my run in the 2009-2010 election cycle where I started over 21 months before the election, this time I only got up and running recently. Nevertheless, the campaign is coming together quickly but there is still much work to do.
I need your support to help continue to grow and build the campaign. Every dollar counts. Please help me make 2014 a great year starting today. Can you kick in $14
for a successful 2014? Or, become a Century supporter
with a contribution of $100?
Big Endorsement News
I am pleased to inform you the campaign has received the following major endorsements:
- California Democratic Party
- California Teachers’ Association
- California School Employees’ Association
- California Professional Firefighters
- Controller John Chiang
- Board of Equalization Member Betty Yee
- Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley
Moreover, I am happy to report tremendous support and endorsements from local leaders throughout the district. Please let me know if I can add your name to the list.
The ‘Itsy Bitsy’ Ballot Statement
When the time came to file a ballot statement, I was the only active Democratic candidate in the race. Spending an extra $5,975 of your generous support just didn’t seem right. Instead, the ballot statement follows the ol’ “Keep It Short & Simple” philosophy: A tax guy for California’s tax board, it just makes sense.
We Made the Top Two!
Because only two candidates are in the race for the District 1 seat, Runner and I, we are the top two.
On the road again…
I’ll have more exciting updates for you soon. In the meantime, please help me put another 2000+ miles on the campaign trail with your contribution
today. This purple district is slowly turning blue but it is still 30 counties large.
PPS: Yes, the yellow area in the graphic at the top IS the District!
