Mountain Messenger (words) 6/21/17

So much to say, so much to do  and yet it is so dang hot… who wants to do anything, of corse doing nothing isn’t an option and doing more is untenable, I wonder what untenable means, it is used often, but I wonder why… well this is interesting.. even my goto online dictionary has ambiguous thoughts about untenable … this most likely leaves Milly as totally untenable when it comes to Jill. I’m now thinking about ambiguous.. my favorite thing during Library period back in primary school days was looking up words in the dictionary, that was back in the days of door to door dictionary salesmen, yep they really did that, and those who were able to own their own dictionary were highly envied. What happened to that quest for learning amongst us Americans, now we have tablets and IPhones where games rule.. that reminds me, I need to take a break and play Solitaire… or maybe a crossword… yeh that’s it… later, gator…

6/21/17/This is not Don, no one knows where he is…. we think it is about his Mommy turning 100 yrs old… so based on genetics we will be putting up with The Don for a long time…. dang… I mean .. isn’t that great!… the person above does all the work but it could be Milly, Penelope or Jill… don’t know for sure…

Get your subscription NOW… today…email Jill at yesdearyousuck@yahoo.com or Don at mtmtn@cwo.com or call 530 289-3262 with card in hand, change your life, find out what’s happening in our world.

Mountain Messenger (cat’s away) 6/14/17

I bet you’re wondering what cat is away and who is in play… well I don’t know for sure, there is someone really nice and professional answering the phone, and it is difficult to believe it is the Jill, but maybe it is, or isn’t, as I mentioned priorly I don’t ever know who is answering the phone, so I am always on my guard. Keeping track of what is happening at the Mess in the summer months is difficult because there is so much going on. This is a problem for everyone in Sierra Country during the summer, during the winter everyone knows what everyone else is doing and whether or not they should be doing it and will certainly take the time to make sure everyone else knows who is who and what is what and so forth but in the summer we just don’t have time to keep track of local gossip i.e.: extremely important knowledge… But I digress and now I have forgotten what it was that I wanted to mention about the Mess and the Don. If it comes back to me I will continue this harangue.

6/14/17 The Don refuses to acknowledge the new “man spreading” laws and in defiance takes it one leg higher..

Mountain Messenger (Don’t Worry) 6/7/17

This week is graduation for the Class o 2017 for Downieville and Loyalton High Schools and never a finer bunch of graduates to be let in this world of chaos we buildt for them… Wait, I don’t Don Russell said that, I forgot what page I was writing on, that’s right this is the Mountain Messenger page and we are only giving Don, Milly, Penelope, Ross, Irma, Ralph, Scott, Brutus and Jill’s thoughts on the futures of these graduates. So they say we wish you luck, we wish the best, good health, jobs, careers, sugar plum bears and Unicorns. They are just hoping that someone comes back from out there and keeps the next generation of the Mountain Messenger going on dead trees with black ink. Of course if everything goes to pot, there is always chiseling in messages on the rocks.. Stay strong, stay good, be kind, live, love and laugh a lot.

Mountain Messenger (lonely at the top) 5/31/17

Don Russell is quickly trying to figure out what to do if Irene decides she is too young for him. Irene is a vibrant, beautiful educator in the prime of life while Don is, well we all know about Don, he kind of reminds us of our grouchy neighbor who would steal our basketball if it landed in his yard and then there are other things about his relationships with friends like who he agrees to have lunch with and who will agree to be seen in public with him. Him being Don.  Anyhow, Jill is so happy that people are responding to her plea for early Grad ads for Loyalton and Downieville  Class of 2017. Be sure to get your ad in asap because you know paper newspapers run out of space and you want to make sure your ad is in the Graduation edition because it will be part of history. Remember today will be history tomorrow. If you have a spark of human kindness in your bones, please please ask Don to have lunch with you at Coyoteville.

Mountain Messenger (Scribes Reign) 5/24/17

Well, I feel a little inept this morning, not being a “real journalist” apparently is a bad thing. Thankfully being a “real” journalist has never been my goal. I leave that to the professionals, like let’s say Don Russell at the Mountain Messenger and Jill, she is a real journalist. I should identify Jill by her last name like in Jill “Real”, unfortunately I don’t know what Jill’s last name is, if I was a “real” journalist certainly I would have gotten that information. Fortunately, for me, Milly does not have a last name, she is just Milly, sometimes The Milly, with finger quotes from Jill with a smirk, as it really irks Jill that “The Milly” has a larger paycheck than her. Which brings me to the point about “real journalist” I think they get paid for their work, don’t they… I mean I don’t get paid, that must be why some say I am not a real journalist…. but still it kinda makes me feel bad… I do need to have a word to identify myself, so I have chosen Scribbler because the dictionary says this about that, ” penman, scribbler, scribeinformal terms for journalists”. So I’ll just be informal… Meanwhile be sure to read the Messenger every week, the best way to do that is to get a subscription (two years is cheaper). I mean where else can you spend .48 cents a week for two years of intelligent entertainment, plus you get 104 crossword puzzles.

5/24/17 Editor, Publisher, Journalist Laurenc DeVita tells The Don how it feels to be “real”. DaVita plans on being in an area where he can “see Russia”.

Mountain Messenger (music madness) 5/17/17

I asked Don Russell to write something for this page this week and although he has refused to participate in his own outing as to his literary skills I did get some inside information from a source about his lead in to the Supes story in the Messenger. The source sang this:

Well, I looked at my watch,
It was February 9,
Supes and their paycheck
Is taking all the time,

And I was rocking,
Rocking and a reeling,
Hope there’s more to our republic,
Than this Déjà vudoo feeling

Well, I looked at my watch,
It was April 13,
We’re tired of this discussion,
And we think we’re gonna scream,

chorus

Well, I looked at my watch,
It was May the 16,
They been doing this dance,
It’s called the Schlefstein

chorus

Well I looked at my watch
It was 2022
There’s one thing for certain,
They’re making’ more than you.

chorus (fade to dismal)
–our apologies to Chuck Berry (the DON)

So all I can say is make sure you get your copy of the Messenger this week, one does not want to miss it… Don’s Supes reports are far better than Trump’s Tweets.

and then Milly sent this “Funny stuff for Mess page? Don is crabby. Jill is an angel. They are trying to decide if they should invest hours and hours of their time putting one (Campground Guide) out. Raise your hand if you think they should.”

5/17/17 Apparently Don Russell does have friends, they just want to be anonymous, here is The Don with the Larry DeVita, the Russell Rosewood and the Scott McDermid at lunch in the Courthouse Cafe in Quincy, apparently you may find him there on a Thursday if you’d like to pick a bone…

Mountain Messenger (don’t tell Irene) 5/10/17

So here we are again at the Mountain Messenger page on a Wednesday, racking our brains trying to think of something new to say about the Mountain Messenger. You really need to read it because it has much more information than the Prospect. I know it seems odd that I would tout the Mess over the Prospect, but I just love print so much more than digital, there is something so satisfying holding real paper with real ink in your hands and reading it at leisure, anywhere one happens to be. And think about it, when your blood pressure starts rising and you don’t like what you’re reading you can crumble, smash, stomp on and burn paper… bad thing to do with a digital device… anyhow I still can’t think of anything to write about Don Russell this week… so how about Milly… she’s been grouchy and mean to me lately, and there is a new sign on her desk to make an appointment with her secretary, Jill, to speak with her… I wonder how Jill feels about that.

Mountain Messenger 5/3/17

The Mountain Messenger is a wonderful place to visit. There are stacks of ancient history in one room, an ancient editor in another, several young and vibrant women, Milly, Jill, Penelope and Irma in another spot, actually Irma is not that young, she and Ralph have been retired for quite some time and we are not sure why she occasionally hangs out in the office, Penelope thinks it is just to annoy Don, although Don doesn’t actually know she is there when she is there. Stop by and say hello to everyone and pay for your subscription the least expensive most entertaining news you will ever find, and most of it is real news. Do you get tired of me asking you to buy an advertisement or even a subscription, well just do it and I won’t ask anymore. I promise.

Lee Adams questions Frank Lang as to why Don Russell would refuse to have lunch with them. Don is not in the room

Mountain Messenger (dirty tricks) 4/19/17

The Mountain Messenger is getting loony in it’s elder age…. there was a knock on my door and two young ladies were there suggesting that I go have lunch with them at Coyoteville. One of the young ladies was the daughter of Milly, I believe her name is Melody and the other was the daughter of Jerri, someone who works collecting taxes, and I believe her daughter’s name is Alice. They told me Milly would buy my lunch. This seemed very suspicious to me, as Milly knows that Wednesday is deadline day for the Prospect so that I publish in the evening and they publish in the morning, it seemed as though she wanted to throw a fly in my ointment. Well it certainly wasn’t Alice or Melody’s fault and I thanked them for the invitation and then loaned them my vehicle so they could drive to lunch as obviously their own Mother’s were unwilling to go to that length. They had a good lunch and my car was returned in one piece. So be careful about lunch invites from Milly.

4/19/17 Patrick at Coyoteville offers some ice tea to Alice and Melody. Patrick loves vegetables.

Mountain Messenger (lunch anyone?) 4/12/17

Mountain Messenger is once again at the top of the list of media outlets with the most interesting take on real news in all of the western United States. It is amazing, most people are struck dumb by this information, however it is based in belief. I talked to Ralph and Irma this week and they will be in town for the Easter Egg Hunt…. they said it was better that they attend rather than Don Russell as Don’s penchant for stealing candy from kids is well known. We don’t understand why, it may have to do with his sister who might have hidden his candy as a child, we don’t know this we are just speculating. Don always thought he was an only child (everyone who knows him thought he was too) hence his resentment of children when he found out there were others. We could all give Don an Easter present by purchasing an advertisement saying how great his writing ability is…. writing a letter doesn’t count… he will print it but it won’t help pay Jill and Milly’s cute little paychecks.

4/12/17 Larry & Lee wonder why Don won’t have lunch with them anymore. When asked they said to tell him lunch would be on Lee next time around, and beg Don to please join them… or Milly… they would accept Milly….

Mountain Messenger (Real Bossy) 4/5/17

Lots of people think that Don Russell is the Boss of all things paper in Downieville, few people realize that he has a Boss and that Boss is actually allowed to approach him on Wednesdays and look directly into Don’s eyes. I know, it is amazing and we all wonder what that is like, must be thrilling. Speaking of being thrilled I know Don was thrilled to meet and actually speak with Dana Gioia, California’s Poet Laureate, He stopped doing his crossword puzzle leaned back in his chair and listened intently at the Board Meeting, I’m not sure if that ever happened again, except of course when Don is having a dialogue with David Prentice the County Counsel, and then he is usually gnashing his teeth too, however I digress. Don also got to speak directly with Dana and then he went to the luncheon and became even chummier…. I’m wondering how District Atty Larry Allen feels about this… maybe he should thought twice about having lunch with CC Prentice.

4/5/17 The Boss, Jim Roos enjoying dinner at Jaada’s, it is noted that Don was not invited.

Mountain Messenger (friendships) 3/29/17

Here is a photo at Coyoteville on Monday, it pains me to think how this photo will be a pinprick to Don Russell’s belief that Larry Allen is his only best friend. Larry has expanded his source of friendship and is having lunch with “Closed Session” David Prentice. If you ever have attended a Sierra County Board of Supervisors meeting you will understand the most hated words Don might hear is the Board Chair announcing they are going into closed session and Don is ejected kicking and screaming from the Boardroom. Maybe the second words he hates most are from Sgt Anderson or Sheriff Standley stating, “that’s not public information”. It is difficult being Don, he is always standing up for truth and knowledge and being shuffled around with words he hates to hear. Unless you are buying a subscription or an ad, he does like to hear, “yeh, save me money and give me a two year subscription.” He also likes it when he is approached with eyes cast down and the words, “may I speak” asked on Wednesdays, he knows you understand his need for total domination and room to think. What to see him actually happy? Buy an ad, any ad, Easter ads are nice and it is almost here.

3/29/17 Normally this would be a photo of Larry Allen (who is known as Don’s best and maybe only friend) and Don Russell at Coyoteville for lunch, however County Counsel David Prentice appears to be edging his way into the relationship… you can see Larry is deep in thought wondering if this could be a mistake……

Mountain Messenger (celebration) 3/22/17

It is soooooo…. difficult to write about Don Russell, Editor of the Mountain Messenger every week, mostly he doesn’t do anything too interesting… it is just write, write, write with him…. all of his efforts are in print on paper… one rarely sees him in public unless he is at St. Charles Church and on occasion Coyoteville Cafe with Larry (his one real friend). Well he does appear at the Board of Supervisors and many other meetings involving Sierra County where he gleans the news. He does that better than anyone else in the Sierra County world of journalism. His mother is very proud of him being the conscientious person he has grown into, not much gets by him that’s for sure. Be sure to support the Mountain Messenger so Don is able to have lunch at Coyoteville. He also likes Jaada’s as it is next door to his church…Now’s the time to make plans for your Easter Day ads in the Messenger. Little kids love to read about the Easter Bunny.

Mountain Messenger (and Mexico trivia) 3/15/17

Don Russell has a lot on his plate lately, he is driving a new car, involved in investigative journalism and still has to deal with Milly, Jill, Ralph, Irma, Brutus, Scott and me. Penelope Snow is part of the mix usually but she is on sabbatical in Mexico. She was concerned she would not be able to cross the border soon, she is a little confused about whether it is okay to go to Mexico but if you are there then are you allowed to come back to the U.S. nobody at the Mess really had an answer, so she decided to take a chance and go before the Wall is built. Although she is a capable bookkeeper evidently she does not have a good feel for geography or maybe the politics of international travel. But I digress, we were talking about Don Russell and his new car. He really likes it. I haven’t been asked to enjoy a ride in it, could be because after the first time I rode to Quincy with Don driving I swore never to get in a car with him again… anyone who drives with Don will understand. I may have told you this before… it’s one of those unforgettable experiences.

Chili & Mountain Messenger (have car will) 3/8/17

Don Russelll won first place in the Great Yuba Pass Chili Cook-Off last weekend, most people think that Steve Sharp, ruler of St Charles and Jenny Varn won but Don thinks it was him… he could be confused because he just bought a new car. Don is very excited about his new car, because he “knows a lot about cars”.  Most anyone who knows Don would agree he knows a lot about cars and a little about Chili, although if his Chili tastes good one generally understands Irene is responsible. I kind of feel bad for Don who has always wanted to be the big winner, he might have in his younger days, I can’t recall, being older than him…. you can help him feel better by buying an ad or a subscription to the Mountain Messenger. If you don’t want or already have a subscription think about a gift subscription to someone you love… or maybe an enemy someone you don’t like… that works too. If your enemy reads the Mess you can write Letters to the Editor about stuff that will make them grind their teeth at night…
